10 Common Vinyl Siding Parts

Here are ten of the most common trims used with vinyl siding on a home.

Let go over what they are called and where they are used.

1/ Starting Trim: Starting trim is used to begin the siding installation at the bottom of the wall. It creates a straight, level line for the first row of siding to rest against. Starting trim often has a flange at the bottom to help support the first row of siding.

2/ Ending Trim (or Finish Trim): Ending trim is used to finish off the ends of the siding. It provides a clean edge and helps to protect the cut edges of the siding from moisture and damage.

3/ Outside Corner Trim: Outside corner trim is used to finish the corners of the building where two walls meet at an outside angle. It provides a clean, finished look and helps to protect the edges of the siding from damage.

4/ Inside Corner Trim: Inside corner trim is used to finish the corners of the building where two walls meet at an inside angle. Like outside corner trim, it provides a clean, finished look and helps to protect the edges of the siding from damage.

5/ Connector Trim (or F Trim): Connector trim, also known as F trim, is used to join two pieces of siding together end-to-end horizontally. It provides a seamless transition between the two pieces of siding and helps to protect the joint from moisture and debris.

6/ J Channel: J channel, shaped like the letter J. Itโ€™s used around windows, doors, and other openings to receive the cut ends of the siding panels. It provides a finished look and helps to protect the cut edges of the siding from moisture and damage.

7/ Soffit: Soffit is the material that covers the underside of the roof overhang. It helps to protect the roof structure and provides ventilation to the attic.

8/ Coil Trim: Coil trim, also known as coil stock or trim coil, is a coil of metal that is used to create custom trim pieces for the siding installation. It is often used to create trim pieces that match the color of the siding.

9/ F Channel: is a type of trim that can be used for soffit and is shaped like the letter F.  F-channel is a good choice for most soffit installations because it doesn’t require additional backing or trim pieces.

10/ Window Lineal: A window lineal is a decorative trim piece that goes between a window or door and siding. It can enhance the appearance of windows and add an accent to a home’s exterior. Lineal trim can have a wider face profile that helps to unify and accent a home’s exterior
