Porch Swing Guide

When hanging a porch swing, ensuring adequate height and spacing is crucial for safe and comfortable swinging.

Here are some guidelines:

Front Clearance: Ensure at least 24 inches of clearance from the very front of the swing.

Back Clearance: At least 24 inches of clearance from the back of the swing to the wall or railing behind it.

Side Clearance: Have at least 6 inches of clearance on either side of the swing to allow for easy access and to prevent hitting any walls or railings

Height: Adjust the length of the chains or ropes so that the swing hangs at the desired height. A comfortable height is usually 18-22 inches off the ground.

Safety: Ensure the beam or joist can support the weight of the swing plus occupants. Most porch swings should be able to hold at least 500 pounds.

P.S. Periodically check the eye bolts, chains, and other hardware for signs of wear and tear!
